This is the last blog in a series of three posts regarding Presidential Policy Directive 21, that was issued February 12, 2013. My first blog focused on what the directive meant and who it impacted. The
second focused on the imperatives and dates outlined in the blog. This final post focuses on the Critical Infrastructures and Sector-Specific Agencies(SSA’s) that are impacted. The directive identifies 16 critical infrastructure sectors and designates associated Federal SSA’s. The Secretary of Homeland Security is charged to periodically evaluate the need for and approve changes to critical infrastructure sectors.

The sectors and SSA’s are listed in alphabetical order and Emergency Visions would be glad to help
you or anyone in your organization review your plans or offer advice on how to utilize technology to
enhance your preparedness. Chemical – Department of Homeland Security(DHS), Commercial Facilities – DHS, Critical Manufacturing – DHS, Dams – DHS, Defense Industrial Base – Department of Defense(DOD), Emergency Services – DHS, Energy – Department of Energy, Financial Services – Department of Treasury, Food and Agriculture – Department of Agriculture and Department of Health and Human Services, Government Facilities – DHS and GSA, Healthcare and Public Health – Department of Health and Human Services, Information Technology – DHS, Nuclear Reactors, Materials and Waste – DHS, Transportation Systems – DHS and DOT, Water and Wastewater Systems – Environmental Protection Agency.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this brief overview of PPD 21 and the agencies and industries that
are covered under this directive. Emergency Visions is hosting its next webinar on Tuesday March 19th at 2 PM ET and we invite you to participate! We will have speakers from both the NGO and Private Sector
describing how they can help you with Capacity Building when you are planning for or responding to
disasters within your organization. Click here to learn more!
